We’ve had a few — Inauguration Day and the 21 Jan “Womens’ March” in the Downtown area of ABQ, and Santa Fe and Las Cruces. And the recent visit of Milo Yiannopoulos to the UNM main campus in ABQ (27 Jan) got a little hairy — at least 50 NM State Police in and around the event, including their EOD team, plus UNMPD, UNM Security and Securitas officers on scene. After the speech, they escorted Milo out of the ballroom through the back areas, while keeping the attendees in the ballroom for another 20-30 minutes. When they did let us out, we had to go through a cordon of LEOs (some reports say Bernalillo County SO was on scene, as well) in riot gear.
As for the illegals, there are bills in the State Legislature to make New Mexico a “sanctuary state,” and the Democrat-controlled Legislature recently invited Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to address the Roundhouse, but did not extend the same invitation to Trump.

Here’s a brief recap of the 27 January Milo event at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque —
I was there (right side of the center aisle, last row), heard the anti-Milo fascists thumping on the doors at the back of the ballroom before they brought Milo out, had to wait about 20-30 minutes after it was over before the NM State Police would let any of the attendees leave the ballroom, etc.
I will say that it wasn’t one of his better speeches. Milo came out wearing cop-fetish gear (a black tactical-type vest with “POLICE” in white lettering on it).
There must have been about 50 NMSP officers, including EOD (“bomb squad”) in and around the ballroom, along with UNMPD, UNM Security and Securitas officers.
As we were departing from the SUB, we had to go through a cordon of cops in riot gear to get to the nearby parking structure.
UNM had the entire food court at the SUB shut down. I’m guessing that the decision for that one was made by UNM for “security concerns.” I didn’t have any chance to get dinner until 8:30 PM that night.

I don’t have much contact with the local immigrants. The local “lib” “prog” types have been making public offers of “sanctuary” and talking about setting up some sort of “underground railroad” in local media and on Facebook. Which is operationally idiotic if the point of the exercise is to actually hide these people.
As for the illegals themselves, most of them are here to work, not stir shit up. By and large, you can’t get your roof fixed in ABQ if not for them, for example. The current Lieutenant Governor (Republican John Sanchez) either owns or owned a roofing company (Rightway Roofing) and more than likely employed a few of them.
As for the protests and riots, there probably was a good amount of locals in the ranks. I’m guessing that they used the ABQ Center for Peace and Justice as a rally point for these events — it’s close to both UNM and the Downtown area, and the location itself is a clearinghouse of sorts for the local “left” — just about every “lib” “prog” whackjob group leaves its brochures there, at the very least.
