Could the free market fight drug use? It already does.

The free market doesn’t fight idiotic behavior with violence. It just makes you pay the penalty for that behavior. If you use any drugs at all, there are plenty of private sector jobs that you cannot be hired for. Private insurers give private companies that work with heavy machinery major discounts for being drug free. No need for government involvement. Private healthcare, daycare, and educational companies often require drug free employees. Pretty much every employer prefers them.

The free market won’t kidnap you and lock you in a rape camp for using drugs. It just might not hire you. You may face the choice between clean living and destitution, homelessness, and starvation.

If you’re squandering hours a day intoxicated, you also may have a competitive disadvantage compared to those who don’t. If your competitors are using that time to better themselves or improve their skills, you’ll be left behind.

On the reverse side, if drug use makes you more creative, or just more relaxed, or somehow helps you, then the free market might even reward you.

The free market rewards good behavior and punishes bad behavior — without government violence or theft.

If elected, I will sponsor legislation to end the drug war, abolish the DEA, release nonviolent drug users, sellers, and transporters from prison, and cut taxes accordingly. I will also sponsor legislation to end all federal welfare, including educational and medical welfare. Drug use punishes itself, and it does so even better without welfare softening the blow.

    Respectfully,
