I recently received a call from someone making calls for Governess Chipmunk (505-207-5443) asking me to vote for MLG.

The funny thing was — the caller couldn’t even pronounce MLG’s name properly — “Lu-jan” at first.

Issue 1,176 of L. Neil Smith’s THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE is now up

    L. Neil Smith’s THE LIBERTARIAN ENTERPRISE

    — An International Journal of Opinion —

    Issue 1,176, October 2, 2022

    https://ncc-1776.org/

THIS ISSUE’S MOTTO: Justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done. — Lord Gordon Hewart, Lord Chief Justice of England (1924)

THE WEEKLY CARTOON: Why don’t the 99% of us who aren’t offended quit catering to the 1% who are?

    A Request for Help

Our longtime friend of the Libertarian Enterprise has been released from jail after selling his car to post bond. He would prefer to retain a lawyer rather than depend on the tender mercies of a public defender. He has identified a lawyer he would like to retain, who wants $5,000 as an initial retainer. Costs are estimated as follows:

$5,000 for basic discovery, pleading, etc.
3,000 for motions, including to suppress evidence
5,000 for trial should any charges proceed to trial

Our friend maintains his innocence with respect to the charges, and while the Libertarian Enterprise will not comment on the particulars of the situation, we do believe that everyone is owed a fair trial and the ability to retain a lawyer, with whom one is able to communicate in confidentiality. To that end, we have set up a GiveSendGo page, and our friend, and we, would be extremely grateful for any help our readers would be able to kindly provide.

    https://givesendgo.com/G3DA3

Donations will show up as “Rule of Law”, and will be directed to an account in Cathy’s name which will then be provided to the chosen counsel.

    Thank you

    Yours in Liberty,

    Rylla and Cathy Smith

Back in 1999, I was working at a gas station as a second job. The girl I was relieving counted the register and said it had 86xx.xx in it, I counted 79x.xx. When I questioned this discrepancy, she said “We’ll just have to disagree,” and left for the night. I asked the store manager to look into this . . . difference, and his count was 0.20 over mine.

What the presidential election really is is fifty state elections, all happening side by side.

How about instead of ditching the Electoral College, require that the candidate win the nationwide popular vote AND win 270 electoral votes?

Several of the states used to have their own versions of the Electoral College at the state level, for the same reason (so that the big cities are less able to trample the liberties of the rural folks). Those state-level electoral colleges were done away with after Reynolds v. Sims passed through the Supreme Court in 1964. Talk about a decision that needs to be reversed!

Did the El Palomar owner(s) make sure to include the line “Paid for by ________” on the mural they put on the wall of their storefront?

Otherwise Brett Kokinadis will file another nonsensical complaint about that mural with the Secretary of State’s office.

    * In case some inconsequential asswipe decides to file a complaint with New Mexico’s Office of the Secretary of State about me not being registered as a political action committee and “coordinating with the campaign.”

For those inclined to file such a complaint, consider this post to be your cordial invitation to anally self-fornicate with a lit stick of dynamite.
