  1. Re: nmpolitics.net: Civility and the long view

    From the article :

“The question is, why does it matter? Because both left and right need to learn to take the long view — the preservation of our country and our freedoms.”

So what existing regulations and statutes are each “side” — the “left” and “right” — willing to fight to repeal or otherwise do away with?

  2. Re: nmpolitics.net: Internet sales tax receives bipartisan support

    From the article —

“‘It’s really just closing a loophole,” said Rep. Monica Youngblood, R-Albuquerque.”

So amongst the five Republicans on the House Business and Industry Committee (Alonzo Baldonado, Yvette Herrell, Tim D. Lewis, Jane E. Powdrell-Culbert, and Monica Youngblood), only Rep. Herrell has what it takes to stand up for taxpayers.

Seriously, State and local governments don’t need more money, they need to get out of everyone’s way more and let people live their lives.

I have been asked why I did not stick around after speaking against the Gunowner Persecution and Legislative Bureaucracy Enhancement Bill (HB 50) to speak for the Cannabis Tax Slavery and Legislative Bureaucracy and Revenue Act (HB 89). I thought I was pretty clear about why on Living Liberty two weeks ago. But here is exhibit A. Read that title and weep.

    AN ACT
RELATING TO CANNABIS; ENACTING THE CANNABIS REVENUE AND FREEDOM
ACT; ENACTING THE CANNABIS TAX ACT; PROVIDING DUTIES AND POWERS
OF THE REGULATION AND LICENSING DEPARTMENT, THE TAXATION AND
REVENUE DEPARTMENT, THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; CREATING THE CANNABIS CONTROL
BOARD AND PROVIDING DUTIES AND POWERS; REVISING THE LYNN AND
ERIN COMPASSIONATE USE ACT; REVISING SECTIONS OF LAW RELATED TO
MARIJUANA; CREATING THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH FUND, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY PUBLIC SAFETY
FUND, THE PUBLIC DEFENDER PUBLIC SAFETY FUND AND THE CANNABIS
REVENUE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND; PROVIDING AND REVISING
    PENALTIES; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS.

We had a few back in 2012. After 2013, they went into hiding or something.

So let me get this straight — the vaccinated kids are at risk from the unvaccinated kids? Isn’t that a bit backwards, in that the very point of vaccination is to make the person receiving the vaccine at less risk of contracting the disease in question?

  6. Re: nmpolitics.net – Felons skirting background checks by buying guns online, group says

If “Everytown for Gun Safety” was truly about promoting firearms safety, they would offer training where people could learn how to handle, use, carry and store firearms in a safe manner.

Instead, that sort of training is offered by the outfit that “Everytown for Gun Safety” complains about on a regular basis as The Scourge Of America — the National Rifle Association of America.

While “Everytown for Gun Safety” could be offering firearms training, all they do instead is lobby governmental bodies in the name of restricting the inherent individual, civil, Constitutional right of Americans to own and carry weapons. The Constitution doesn’t give anyone that right — the right is a pre-existing one, accorded to everyone at birth as a matter of being born as a sapient (self-aware) entity.

White, black, Latin, Asian, or Native, gay, straight or bi, cis or trans, male or female, Christian, Jew, Hindu, pagan or Muslim — the Second Amendment doesn’t discriminate.

Here’s a list of the NRA-affiliated sites and pages that offer various forms of training:

    https://gunsafetyrules.nra.org/
    https://firearmtraining.nra.org/
    https://mqp.nra.org/
    http://nrainstructors.org/
    https://rso.nra.org/
    https://coach.nra.org/
    https://onlinetraining.nra.org/
    https://eddieeagle.nra.org/

And that’s just what’s on the NRA site. There are thousands of NRA-accredited instructors across the nation.

The question remains — what is “Everytown for Gun Safety” doing, besides running phone banks and doing media buys to further the cause of victim disarmament?

I just checked their website and it seems that they’re not doing much of anything training-related, but they sure are doing a lot of phone-banking in New Mexico —
